The Sussex Stags were founded in 2014 by Steve Massoti Sr. and Gary Haase. Prior to that year the last Semi-Pro Football team in Sussex County was the Jersey Stags, who played in 2010 and 2011 under Coach Haase and compiled an overall 16-5 record. The Sussex Stags are a completely new Franchise with some of the same players and coaches from the Stags of old. We are extremely excited to bring quality Semi-Pro Football back to Sussex County. The Sussex Stags completed their first season in 2015 with a semi-final playoff appearance and a 6-5 final record. With many players back for 2016 and a ton of incoming talent, the Stags finished 8-4 and lost in the EFL Championship game to the Syracuse Strong. Local player Ben Cramer led the EFL in Rushing with 1,514 yards and 21 touchdowns. QB Joe Enslin tossed 21 TD passes and 1419 yards. The 2016 Defense was led by All League players Phil Londono, George Sherman and Bobby congleton.
The 2017 season is coming together nicely. Under new head coach and former player, Mike "Chief" Keefer the Stags are gearing up for a Championship season. The Stags open up the 2017 season at home as a member of the MLF (Major League Football) League.
In 2017, the Sussex Stags have joined a new league, major league football (mlf)
